Machining and Metal Fabrication Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Since 1962, Geater Machining and Manufacturing has been providing answers and solutions to many of our customers. Do you have questions about precision machining, metal fabrication or other manufacturing topics? We have assembled a group of the most frequently asked questions from a variety of industries to share our answers with you.

3-axis machining moves in X, Y, and Z directions, and is good for simple parts. 4-axis machining adds rotation around the X or the Y axis, better for slightly more complex parts and offers a shorter setup time. A 5-axis machine includes rotation around both the X and the Y axis, ideal for complex parts with a single setup, and provides the highest precision. Each type serves its purpose effectively based on the part’s complexity.

AS9100 and ISO 13485:2016 are important in precision machining because they provide a standardized framework for quality management. The certification is conducted by an independent auditor to ensure the company meets the rigorous quality requirements. Certification helps improve customer satisfaction, reduce defects, and improve overall quality management. ISO 13485:2016 certification focuses on medical device manufacturing and provides requirements for a comprehensive quality management system.
